Recently, mobile phone maker Motorola started the deployment of the Android 2.1 software update for users of its Motorola DROID and MILESTONE handsets, a roll-out expected to bring joy to the owners of other Android-based handsets from the company too. The handset vendor has just updated the time-table for the move, showing that most of its devices should receive the solution in Q2 or Q3 of the ongoing year.

DROID by Motorola is currently receiving the over-the-air software upgrade from Verizon Wireless, and the same applies to its twin brother, the MILESTONE, in markets in Europe and Asia-Pacific. Latin American MILESTONE is set for update in the second quarter of the year, Motorola states, adding that its plans involve the delivering of Android 2.1 for Canadian users in the following three months.

As for the other Android-powered phones from Motorola, BACKFLIP is expected to receive Android 2.1 in Q3 in the US, and the same applies to DEXT in the Asia-Pacific area, while CLIQ and CLIQ XT will taste the update in Q2 in the US. According to Motorola, it is still evaluating the update for DEVOUR in the US and for DEXT in Europe and Latin America. One thing that should be mentioned here is that the roll-out of Android 2.1 will depend on regional carriers too, and that changes might occur in the timing.

“We know you value having the latest and greatest technology on your devices. We are working very closely with Google and our carrier partners to bring you the most optimized experience on each of our smartphones powered by Android; this means appropriately releasing both operating system upgrades and software maintenance updates which enhance device functionality. We will continue to update the information […] regarding the timing and availability of software upgrades, and will provide additional details as we have them to share. We appreciate your understanding and continued support,” Motorola states on its support forums.
