Motorola to delvier the Android 2.1 update to CLIQ and CLIQ XT in the near future

As expected, mobile phone maker Motorola missed the deadline for delivering the Android 2.1 software update in the second quarter of the ongoing year for the owners of a Motorola CLIQ or a CLIQ XT. Although the company promised Android 2.1 would come before the third quarter would start, and that there would be a wide range of enhancements users would enjoy, including a better users interface, things have been pushed back a little. We say “a little” based on the company's promise that the update would arrive as soon as possible, yet no specific release window for Android 2.1 was provided for the time being.

“For those asking for an update regarding a software upgrade on CLIQ in the U.S., we've made a decision to take more time on the release to optimize the experience in some key areas. We will continue to work to deliver it as soon as possible and apologize that we have been unable to provide an upgrade to these users in Q2 as planned. We are working hard to provide an upgrade to Android 2.1 as soon as we can. Our consumers’ experience is our first priority and we will provide an upgrade when we can deliver the best possible user experience,” a Motorola employee states in a post on the company's support forums.

It seems that the testing phase of the solution has already started, and that there are great chances that the software solution would be released during the quarter that started today. The company has other firmware upgrades too slated for this quarter, and US owners of a Motorola CLIQ or CLIQ XT should be among those to enjoy their share. BACFLIP owners are also expected to receive a new operating system version on their handsets during Q3, though specific info on when exactly the solution would arrive are missing.

All in all, we'll have to wait for an official announcement from Motorola to see when exactly the upgrade would be released for its devices. The company already committed to providing Android 2.1, and even offers users the possibility to register for updates on when the solution would land. Additional details on this are available here for BACKFLIP and here and here for CLIQ and CLIQ XT, respectively.
