Motorola is one of the numerous mobile phone makers that announced plans to turn to Google's Android platform in the shortest period of time possible. Although no specific details on a possible device have been officially announced until now, it seems that the company is working hard with the OS, while also trying to convince developers that the best move they can do is to come up with applications for its upcoming Android phone.

Christy Wyatt, Motorola VP of software platforms, is reported to have already confirmed what we were all expecting, namely the fact that the company will try to target the mass market with its handsets running under Google's platform. For what it's worth, this means that the mobile phones that will come from Motorola with Android will feature capabilities aimed at consumer and enterprise customers, while the prices are also expected to be shaped accordingly. When it comes to its relationship with developers, Motorola seems to be pretty involved in it, with a series of meetings organized in Chicago, Sunnyvale and London.

While trying to attract developers into making apps for its upcoming devices, Forbes says, the company has also unveiled a few more details on its strategy regarding the OS, though it seems that not all necessary details have been made public yet. One of the things that are still unavailable is access to Motorola’s Android-specific developer tools, such as development kits, yet it seems that it should come later this year. At the same time, Motorola seems determined to help developers sell their apps through various channels.

Some of the details that the phone maker already unveiled to the world include the fact that applications developed for Motorola’s Android handsets might get pre-loaded on the devices, besides being made available through Google’s Android Market, carrier stores, direct sales or third-party distributors. The pricing of the phones will range from mid-to high-tier, while the devices are expected to reach about all the markets around the globe and come with powerful messaging and multimedia capabilities.
