Mobile phone maker Motorola has been long rumored to plan bringing to the market a batch of new handsets running under Google's Android operating system, among which a Motorola Sholes Tablet has been spotted. Said to be a close relative of the already available Motorola DROID, the Sholes Tablet has emerged not to long ago into the wild as the Motorola XT701, a device set to arrive on the market in China.

A series of new images with the mobile phone is now available for your viewing pleasure, and there are also new details on the handset's specifications list, it seems. Some of the most interesting new specs on the handset include the Android 2.1 flavor of the operating system pre-loaded on the device, as well as the presence of an 8-megapixel photo snapper with xenon flash on the handset's back. At least this is what mobiset.ru has to say about the Sholes Tablet, though others, like Android Central, say that Motorola's Chinese website (currently down, it seems) shows a 5-megapixel camera with xenon flash.

Among the other specs of the phone retrieved from Motorola's site we can count support for WCDMA / HSDPA 10.2M / HSUPA 5.76M connectivity, WiFi b/g, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR capabilities, a GPS, accelerometer, proximity sensor and light sensor, as well as FM tuner and 3.5 mm headphone jack. At the same time, the list also includes a Cortex-A8 processor, and a 3.7-inch touchscreen display that boasts an 854 x 480 pixel resolution.

A series of multimedia features are also available with the Sholes Tablet, including audio player with support for MP3 / AAC / AACv1 / AACv2 / AMR-NB / AMR-WB / MIDI / WAV / Ogg Vorbis file formats, as well as a video player with support for MPEG4 / H.263 / H.264 formats. Along with support for SMS, MMS, e-mail (POP3/IMAP4) and enterprise-class e-mail, the mobile phone comes to the market with a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, as well.

Take a look at the images below to make an idea of the handset. For what it's worth, one will easily spot the resemblance with the Motorola DROID, even if the physical QWERTY keyboard is a no show.
