Motorola FIRE XT was announced back in August, but the US-based handset maker said it would launch the affordable smartphone in South America under a different name tag.

Today, the company has revealed that the Motorola FIRE XT will be available in Chile via all major carriers beginning this week.

However, the smartphone was launched as Motorola SPICE XT, but other than the name it does not come with anything new in comparison with the FIRE XT.

Motorola SPICE XT is aimed at customers who don’t want to spend their entire budgets for a month on an Android smartphone, but still wish to experience the features offered by Google’s mobile platform.

Although Motorola does not mention any prices for the smartphone, the SPICE XT is surely in the budget-friendly pricing range.

The device is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is likely to stay on this platform forever, though anything is possible when it comes to Motorola and Google.

On the inside, the phone embeds an 800 MHz processor, an Adreno 200 graphics processing unit, 512 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

There’s also a decent 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution and 16million colors.

Motorola SPICE XT sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus and LED flash, as well as a secondary VGA front facing camera for video chats.

It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone comes pre-loaded with Moto Switch user interface, which allows users to quickly switch between personal and work modes.

Our smartphones have gained a very special place in our user’s personal and professional lives. That’s why Motorola Mobility continues to develop modern, attractive and feature-packed devices. Motorola SPICE XT is an affordable device that gives young, fast-moving users everything they want from a top-quality smartphone,” said Fernando Sanchez, general manager for Motorola Mobile Devices Chile.
