The soak test should be over in less than a week

In a surprising move, Motorola kicked off the rollout of the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for the Moto X (2014), but only a few owners have received it.

Although the US-based handset maker published the full release notes of the update, it looks like this is just a soak test that usually previews the public release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade.

Still, a fair number of Motorola Moto X (2014) owners who’ve just received the update as a soak test are now enjoying the Material Design UI, along with all the new features and improvements included in Android 5.0 Lollipop.

If Motorola had released the Lollipop update for all Moto X (2014) devices, it would have been the first handset maker to offer the upgrade to one of its products.

Even though this is not a public rollout yet, we expect Motorola to finish testing this build in the next couple of days if nothing wrong happens.

As mentioned earlier, along with the Lollipop build for the Moto X (2014), Motorola also published the release notes of the update, but they were quickly pulled as this wasn’t meant to be a general release.

However, we still have the changelog of the update, courtesy to the folks over at Droid-Life. Even though it’s much shorter than the release notes published, at least it confirms that this is indeed the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade.

Lollipop should arrive for everyone with Moto X (2014) devices in less than a week

In addition, the changelog also mentions the Material Design, which brings a new, colorful and responsive experience, as well as many other new features, including new notification controls, an improved battery saver, and enhanced on-device security.

The update requires about 200-400 MB of available user storage to upgrade and optimize all applications, so those lucky enough to have received this soak test Lollipop build should make sure that they have enough free storage.

Motorola Moto X (2014) owners should expect the Lollipop update to arrive on their devices in just a few days, though an exact release date hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Droid-Life also published a 9-minute video in which they demo this version of Android 5.0 Lollipop running on Motorola Moto X (2014), so you might want to watch for more insight.

In other news, the Moto X (2014) won’t be the only smartphone to receive the Lollipop upgrade this month, as LG confirmed a few days ago that the G3 would be getting the update as well.

Keep in mind though that LG will only make the update available in Poland this week, so G3 owners in other countries may receive it much later this month. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
