Good news for Motorola RAZR owners as the US-based company has decided to commence the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the international version of the smartphone.

Motorola Mobility had previously confirmed that an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the RAZR would be available in Q2, but the company delayed the update for Q3 due to unknown reasons.

Fortunately, not all Motorola RAZR owners have been left out, as the handset maker kicked off an initial rollout of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update in early July.

However, only RAZR users living in Germany, France and Italy were able to upgrade their devices to Ice Cream Sandwich:

Motorola RAZR and RAZR MAXX owners in Europe will now start to share in the delight that is Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The upgrade is now rolling out to select users in Germany (retail), France (SFR) and Italy (retail and TIM) and will be available more broadly over the coming weeks.”

Today, the folks over at GSMArena claim they have been confirmed that Motorola will start the rollout of the long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich today, so international RAZR XT910 owners might want to check their devices for this update.

Apparently it’s been a delay in the push of the ICS upgrade for Motorola RAZR due to T-Mobile declining to approve the update unless they were allowed to customize it with their apps and services.

Fortunately, the carrier decided to let it go after Google refused to allow T-Mobile to personalize the Android 4.0 ICS ROM for Motorola RAZR with their bloatware.

The optional software update 651.73.30 has about 153MB in size and is pushed OTA (over the air), in stages, which means it won’t be available to all Motorola RAZR owners at the same time. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
