Mobile phone maker Motorola has just announced via its Facebook account that it started pushing out a new software update for its Motorola Milestone users, bringing the OS on this device up to Android 2.2 Froyo.

This is a long-awaited software update, which landed on the US version of Milestone, also known as the Motorola DROID, last year, though got delayed on the versions of the device that arrived on other markets around the world.

“Hello all. The Android 2.2 (Froyo) software upgrade for Milestone is now being rolled out in selected countries, please visit http://www.motorola.com/mymilestone for instructions on how to upgrade your device,” Motorola Europe announced via its Facebook page.

The new Android 2.2 Froyo update should offer a nice range of improvements to users, including fixes, new features, and a series of other enhancements.

Among the main improvements that users would enjoy following the update, we can count:

- Improved Web browsing with support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1, currently available for download via Android Market - Enhanced browser performance for faster loading of JavaScript heavy pages. New security options including remote wipe and device lock, complex password, and minimum password length. - New tips, shortcuts, and assistance from a home-screen widget help users better navigate their phones. - Downloaded apps can now be automatically updated and you can choose to store applications in the device’s memory or on a SD card. - Management of password policies for Microsoft Exchange administrators across all devices. - Increased ring and notification volume. - Edit recurring Corporate Calendar meetings with a large number of invitees. - Improved Hotmail sync for accounts with a large number of emails. - Streamlined efficiency in Microsoft Exchange Active Sync

Other enhancements are also there, including support for 3G Mobile Hotspot connectivity, so that users can share a 3G connection with WiFi-enabled devices, better Wi-Fi performance and connectivity, easy switching between the 8 most recently used applications.
