Mobile phone Motorola has finally provided some official info on its plans for the Motorola Photon Q smartphone on the network of Sprint, confirming that the phone will not be updated past the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

Those of you who will head over to the Motorola Upgrade Portal will see that the device’s status has changed from the "Future plan coming soon" previously present there.

“This device will remain on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)” is what Motorola notes in regard to Photon Q on its website, which makes things plain and clear.

One thing that is certain, however, is the fact that the info does not come too much as a surprise, considering the fact that this handset was released back in August 2012.

As Android Police notes, Photo Q users might be currently approaching the end of their contracts, which means that now appears as a good time for them to upgrade.

Moreover, considering the appealing features and affordable price tags that Motorola’s latest devices have to offer, including the Moto X, Moto G, and the newly announced Moto E, Photon Q users might very well consider grabbing one of these, so as to enjoy the latest Android KitKat OS version.
