Motorola Mobility has just announced an upgrade to the standard Motorola PRO Android smartphone, the PRO+.

Although no price tag has been revealed, Motorola confirmed that the smartphone will be available in Asia and Europe starting in October.

At first glance the only difference between the PRO+ and the original model is the mobile platform that each uses and the amount of storage.

While Motorola PRO is powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo), the PRO+ comes with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) out of the box.

Unfortunately, the PRO+ packs only 4GB of internal memory, while the standard PRO embeds 8GB of storage.

In addition, the PRO+ edges are a bit more polished in comparison with the almost rectangular shaped Motorola PRO.

It is also worth mentioning that Motorola PRO features HSDPA 10.2 Mbps and HSUPA 1.8 Mbps support, whereas the PRO+ is slightly better as it comes with HSDPA 14.4 Mbps and HSUPA 2Mbps.

The Motorola PRO+ is built for people who want to take the pressure off and consolidate their work and personal lives with an efficient smartphone that acts like your personal assistant, Today, with our demanding 24/7 lifestyles your smartphone should make your complex life easier and give you an edge at work and at play,” said Alain Mutricy, senior vice president, portfolio and device product management, Motorola Mobility.

Obviously, Motorola PRO+ features a full portrait QWERTY keyboard and 3G Mobile HotSpot capabilities.

The phone is equipped with a single core 1GHz processor and features a 3.1-inch VGA capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 640 x 480 pixels resolution.

In this regard, it looks like the PRO+ resolution is slightly better than the PRO's 320 x 480 pixels.

Motorola also bumped the PRO+ battery capacity to 1600 mAh, in comparison with PRO's 1420 mAh battery.

No word about a possible launch in North America, but the manufacturer might announce it under a different moniker at a later date.
