Rumored a long time ago, Motorola PHOTON Q 4G LTE has just been officially unveiled by the US-based handset maker. As expected, the smartphone will be available for purchase from Sprint in the following weeks.

Unfortunately, Sprint and Motorola Mobility did not unveil any details on the PHOTON Q 4GLTE’s launch date, but at least we know it’s “coming soon.”

Although the device comes with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, it’s nothing unusual.

However, the smartphone follows the same design line of the Motorola Milestone, which means it will come with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Aside from the physical keyboard, Motorola PHOTON Q 4G LTE boasts an impressive 4.3-inch ColorBoost capacitive touchscreen display.

Another strong point of the phone is the ability to operate on Sprint’s new 4G LTE network, which is currently available in 15 cities including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Kansas City and Waco, Texas.

Motorola PHOTON Q will be the first 4G LTE device with a QWERTY keyboard and world phone capabilities to join the Sprint line-up. We want to make sure our 4G LTE handset portfolio has the full complement of choices for our customers. Adding a product with both a physical keyboard and world mode makes this a great addition to the Sprint family of devices,” said David Owens, vice president - product development, Sprint.

Hardware-wise, the PHOTON Q 4G LTE is equipped with a dual core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, possibly a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM.

There’s also an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

A secondary front-facing camera for video calls and NFC support are included as well. For more details on the Motorola PHOTON Q 4G LTE check out the phone’s dedicated webpage.

When we talk to people who love their QWERTY smartphones, it’s evident this segment is passionate about their keyboards. Motorola PHOTON Q offers a class-leading keyboard and an amazing big screen so you can see and do more with your smartphone,” said Mark Shockley, senior vice president, Go-to-Market, Motorola Mobility.
