Wireless services provider Sprint has made available for order on its website a new device running under Google's Android operating system, namely the Motorola PHOTON 4G, a handset expected to become available for purchase through all channels as soon as Sunday, July 31st.

The handset was already made available for pre-order through various retailers in the United States, and is now listed on Sprint's website as well, here.

At the wireless carrier, the Motorola PHOTON 4G was made available with a price tag of $199.99 attached to it with the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

On Sunday, the smartphone will also become available for purchase for those Sprint customers eligible for upgrades, and should be put for sale via all Sprint channels, including Sprint.com, telesales, and national retail partners such as Radio Shack and Best Buy.

The Motorola PHOTON 4G comes to the market with a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor inside, with each core clocked in at 1GHz, being the first smartphone in Sprint's offering to include such a powerful processor.

The new device also comes with a 4.3-inch QHD display, an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back with HD video recording capabilities, and with a front camera for video calling.

“Built with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and equipped with a powerful dual-core processor, Motorola PHOTON 4G, combined with Sprint’s 4G network, lets users browse, download and multitask at maximum speeds to support their busy lifestyles,” the wireless carrier notes.

“Motorola PHOTON 4G provides an array of versatile tools, such as the Motorola webtop application, allowing users to access and create content from a larger screen while connected to a Motorola HD Station dock (available for purchase at device launch).”

At the same time, Sprint announced that the new Motorola PHOTON 4G is being launched as a Sprint ID-capable device. Sprint IDs provide users with a variety of apps, widgets, shortcuts, ringtones and wallpapers fitted for their needs.

The smartphone can be seen on Sprint's website here. Those who would like to reserve a unit can also take advantage of the $179 deal that RadioShack has in store for them.
