Two weeks before its official availability on shelves at wireless carrier Sprint, the Motorola PHOTON 4G smartphone has already seen a price cut at various retailers around the United States, being available for only $179.99.

Apparently, Windows Phone devices are not the only ones that would soon go down to $100, as this is the second Android-based Motorola phone to see a price drop on the market today.

Previously, Motorola's DROID 3 smartphone was spotted at two different retailers with a price tag of only $149.99 attached to it with the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

Unlike the DROID 3 for Verizon Wireless, Sprint's PHOTON 4G was not made available for purchase as of yet, but it will hit stores at the end of July.

However, those who would like to purchase the device can now head to Wirefly here or to Walmart here and pre-order it for the aforementioned price tag.

The handset comes with high-end capabilities, starting with the powerful 1GHZ dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and going all the way to the CDMA/WiMAX network support it was packed with.

The smartphone also comes with a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a qHD resolution, and sports 16GB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space. The mobile phone also sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back with support for HD video recording, as well as a front-facing camera to enable video calling on the go.

“The Motorola Photon 4G is your gateway to state of the art technology. Android 2.3, a large 4.3” qHD display, a 1GHz Dual-Core Tegra 2 processor, and access to the Sprint 4G WiMax network are now within reach,” Walmart notes.

“Fire up Motorola’s own Webtop OS, Attach the laptop dock accessory, and sign on to Corporate Email with Exchange Active Sync to be productive wherever you are.”

“Are you traveling internationally? No problem. Want dual cameras for video chats? Check. Pick up the Motorola Photon 4G today, and you’ll always have access to the best of current cell phone technology.” (via)
