Mobile phone maker Motorola is expected to come to the market in the near future with a new, highly appealing device that would run under Google's Android operating system, dubbed Motorola Olympus.

The handset was not announced officially as of now, but chances are that it would be introduced in the near future, at least this is what a recent article on BGR reads.

However, the mobile phone might not become available for purchase before the end of the ongoing year, the news site states.

According to them, the Motorola Olympus should make an appearance on the market on the airwaves of AT&T sometime in the first quarter of the ongoing year.

It appears that the upcoming handset should sport a candybar form factor, while boasting a 4-inch touchscreen display.

The said article on BGR notes that the forthcoming device would be a “4″ tablet style Android device,” which should arrive with a “beautiful” display, and which will “step it up in resolution.”

Moreover, they note that an Nvidia chip would be included inside this device, which means that we should see a pretty powerful Android phone arriving on shelves from Motorola in the near future.

The anonymous source which provided the above info on the new Motorola handset suggested it might be “the finest Android handset to hit AT&T.”

Unfortunately, the available details on Olympus are scarce for the time being, tough additional info might emerge in the near future, provided that the device is real and that wireless carrier AT&T is indeed gearing up to add it to its offering in early 2011.

For those who are out of the loop, we should note that the device emerged on the web for the first time a few months ago, when a MB860 model number was attached to it.

Back then, AT&T was named as the possible carrier for the upcoming mobile phone, and it appears that things might indeed prove real. Stay tuned for more.
