Recently, mobile phone maker Motorola was rumored to plan the release of a new version of the Moto G handset, one that would be aimed at countries in Latin America, and the device is now official.

The phone was announced in Mexico under the name of Moto G Forte, just as previously rumored, but with only a few changes that would make it stand up as a different device.

The new smartphone was unveiled as nothing more than a Moto G smartphone that packs a Grip Shell on the back. The phone arrives on shelves with said shell out of the box, which means that users interested in getting it won’t have to pay extra.

At the same time, Moto G Forte arrives on shelves in Mexico with 50GB of Google Drive space, which does not come as a surprise either, given that the bundle was available with other devices as well.

The mobile phone was unveiled on the network of wireless carrier Nextel, but Motorola did not announce plans to make it available in other markets and on other operators too, as Pocketnow notes.

Beside the Grip Shell available from the start, the rest of the device’s hardware specifications and capabilities are exactly the same as those announced for the original Moto G.

This means that those who will purchase it will continue to enjoy the handset’s 4.5-inch IPS LCD screen capable of delivering a 720p resolution, as well as the 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 Snapdragon 400 processor packed inside it.

Moreover, Moto G Forte also comes with 1GB of RAM, which should ensure pretty decent performance capabilities. It also sports 8GB of internal memory, with no microSD memory card slot available to expand it.

On the back, the new device features a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and HDR, which should be able to record videos in HD resolution. A 1.3MP front camera was also included on this smartphone.

Moreover, Moto G Forte features support for 3G networks (HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA), as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, along with a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support and GLONASS.

The handset measures 129.9 x 65.9 x 11.6mm and weighs 143 grams, while being powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 2070mAh battery. The accelerometer, proximity, and compass sensors were also packed inside it.

Moto G Forte arrives on shelves with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system loaded on top right from the start, unlike the original, which was released with Android 4.3 and received KitKat as an upgrade.
