The update is only available in the United States for now

We’ve been reported twice this week about Motorola’s attempts to offer its customers the latest version of Android, namely Lollipop 5.0. Both times the updates were sent to two different smartphones as soak tests, so we assumed that it would take a couple of days until the upgrade was rolled out for the public.

However, Motorola has just released a short statement that confirms that the company has already kicked off the deployment of Android 5.0 Lollipop for two smartphones: Moto X (2014) and Moto G (2014).

The handset maker offers the major OS update to both US GSM and Global GSM retail versions of the Moto G (2014), which are sold in the United States.

In fact, the Android 5.0 Lollipop is only available for download for the smartphones mentioned earlier, in the United States. Motorola does not offer any detail on the availability of the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade in other countries.

However, the company claims that it’s now working hard with carrier partners to offer the update to as many devices and as soon as possible.

In a previous statement, Motorola announced that it would bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to no less than 9 smartphones. The company also confirmed that more smartphones may be added to the list of devices eligible for a Lollipop update, as soon as most of the first 9 handsets receive it.

Motorola has also included its own improvements into the Lollipop update

Speaking of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the major OS update will add quite a few new features and visual improvements. Material Design UI is the most obvious, but lots of under-the-hood enhancements have been included in the update as well.

A new Battery saver that shows an estimate projection for how much time users will have left even while they’re charging the handset has been implemented in Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Multiple accounts is another nifty feature that will allow users to lend their smartphones to their friends without fear that their personal data may be accessible. There’s also a new flashlight function in the Quick Settings.

Improved notifications that would allow users to set the priority and privacy for each app is another new feature included in the update.

With the Ambient Display feature, users will be able to receive notifications on the screen even if the phone’s display is off. A lot more improvements will be applied to both Motorola smartphones that are offered the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade, so make sure that you check for the update if you own one of them.
