The smartphone could be unveiled later today

We’re all feverishly waiting for Google to announce something today. Beside the Nexus 9 tablet, which we know for sure will be officially introduced later today, possibly via a blog post.

However, rumor has it that Nexus 9 won’t be the only product launched by the company today and that the search giant may also introduce its next version of Android as well as an unknown Motorola Nexus smartphone.

Even though there’s no telling what Motorola smartphone Google plans to unveil today, there’s a high chance that the company will announce a carrier-branded Nexus 6 handset.

We’re talking about Motorola Nexus 6, which was briefly listed by US-based carrier AT&T earlier today. As AndroidPolice points out, the image and the price are only placeholders, and only the name of the device and the tile itself seem to be final.

For your information, the device that appears in the picture tagged as Motorola Nexus 6 for AT&T is in fact the LG Vista, but the image may be switched by the carrier with that of the Motorola handset when the device is officially unveiled.

The $50 (€40) price on a 2-year contract is a placeholder as well, which means that the Nexus 6 may cost more when it is revealed. All in all, we expect the smartphone to be available for purchase later this month, even if Google decides to make it official today.

A smaller Nexus 6 will be launched at Verizon as Motorola DROID Turbo

It’s unclear whether or not AT&T and Google Nexus 6 variants will have similar specs, but we do know that a smaller version of the device will make its way to Verizon on October 28 as well.

The smartphone will be called DROID Turbo and comes with all the specs of Google’s Nexus 6 except for the display, which will be smaller (5.2 inches).

AT&T may sell the huge 5.9-inch Nexus 6 that will be launched by Google through its Play store, but this has yet to be confirmed at a later date.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Motorola Nexus 6 would be the first Nexus device to be made available for purchase directly via AT&T. However, as noted earlier, there is no info on availability and exact release date yet.

In the meantime, AT&T has pulled the placeholder for Motorola Nexus 6, but we suspect that the device will get listed on the carrier’s webstore sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for more updates on Google’s upcoming Nexus 6 announcement.
