Motorola has finally announced the Moto X will arrive in Australia later this month. Although the US-based handset maker promised it will bring its high-end smartphone to Australia, the company did not mention when exactly the device will be available of purchase.

Sadly, even though Moto X was officially introduced in Australia, Motorola has yet to confirm when potential customers will be able to grab one. According to Motorola’s official statement, the Moto X will be available for purchase for $549 (€355) outright beginning later this month.

It is also worth mentioning the smartphone will be available in either black or white and Motorola also confirmed the Moto X will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, so users won’t need to wait for the update any longer.

The bad news is Aussie customers won’t be offered the benefits of Moto Maker service, which would allow them to customize the aesthetics of the smartphone by changing the back cover.

It’s unclear whether or not Motorola will launch both 16GB and 32GB models, but we suspect the price announced is for the former.

Motorola Moto X is available in the United States for around $400 (€285), which makes the Australian version a bit more expensive if we’re talking about the 16GB model.

Even so, the Moto X is a decent smartphone that is really worth the investment. The device comes equipped with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Pro processor clocked at 1.7GHz, as well as an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

On the inside, the Moto X packs either 16GB or 32GB of storage, but lacks microSD card slot for memory expansion.

Motorola Moto X sports a large 4.7- inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating.

There’s also a 10-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features LED flash, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording. A secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls is included as well.

The smartphone offers the full connectivity package, including Wi-Fi, HSDPA, LTE and Bluetooth 4.0. It also provides users with GPS with A-GPS support and NFC (Near Field Communication).

“At Motorola our roots are deep in mobile hardware – we invented mobile communications. Moto X fuses our history of mobile innovation with the best of Google mobile services to create experiences that no other smartphone can match,” said John Demezieres, Account Director Motorola Mobility Australia.
