Moto G (1st Gen) owner rejoice, as Motorola has finally decided to release the long-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update for this particular smartphone.

Although the US-based handset maker is one of the few companies that offers major Android updates quite fast, the Moto G (1st Gen) upgrade was delayed a bit probably due to some software issues.

Android 5.0 Lollipop was expected to arrive on Moto G (1st Gen) much earlier since a Motorola engineer confirmed back in January that the update should be available “soon.” Unfortunately, the “soon” timeframe turned into a 4-month wait. Still, better late than never.

Starting today, Moto G (1st Gen) should check their phones for an update that will bring the software to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

Before downloading the update, make sure your phone's battery is at least 50% charged and that you have enough storage space.

If you have not received a notification message for this update, you can manually check for it by heading to Settings / About phone / System updates / Yes, I'm in / Install now.

Many performance improvements and new features will be added

The most obvious change included in the update is the new look and feel based on Google's Material Design. In addition, many improvements to notifications UI, priorities, connectivity options and performance have been implemented as well.

Once you update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, you will notice that notifications will now appear on the lock screen and are intelligently ranked by type and who sent them.

Moreover, when you dismiss a notification on one device, it will be dismissed on your other Android devices, if they are connected to the Internet.

There are a lot more new features and improvements included in Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, so for the full list don't forget to check out the official changelog.
