Motorola has just announced the upcoming availability of the Moto E, its cheapest Android smartphone to date. The handset has been officially introduced in India, but it will go on sale in additional countries, including Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and the UK.

Even though the initial price suggested that the smartphone could go on sale for around Rs 8,500 ($140 / €105), Motorola has announced that the Moto E will be available for purchase in India for only Rs 6,999 ($115 / €85) outright.

And it’s not only the price that will probably appeal most Android fans in India, as the Moto E comes with more than decent specs, confirms Droid-Life.

For example, the device is one of the cheapest smartphones in India to come with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box.

It also provides dual-SIM option, which is almost mandatory in India, as well as good enough 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor inside.

Motorola Moto E comes with a 4.3-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution and 256ppi (pixel density). More importantly, Motorola has confirmed that the screen is water resistant and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

Beside the dual-core processor, the Moto E comes packed with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, but users will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

It does not come with LTE support, but it offers 3G HSPA+ on all bands and will also work on AWS and CDMA networks if required.

The Moto E is powered by a 1980 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by Motorola. When it comes to connectivity options, the affordable smartphone offers Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (LE), GPS with A-GPS support, Wi-Fi and 3.5mm audio jack.

Last but not least, the Moto E comes with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, which lacks LED flash. A secondary front-facing camera is absent, so you won’t be able to take / make video calls with the front of the smartphone.

Customers in India will be able to pick up the dual-SIM Motorola Moto E from midnight tonight only through Flipkart. The Indian retailer scored another exclusivity with Motorola after selling the Moto G and Moto X in the India several weeks ago.

No word on price and availability for Moto E in other countries where Motorola announced that the smartphone will be launched, but stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
