For the opening salvo, it definitely looks like it will gather a following

Most smartwatches so far have been square/rectangular things with various knick-knacks, but Motorola intends to change the tune with a totally round watch, the Moto 360.

Displays are pretty hard to create in a round shape, and it's not exactly one that makes it easy to avoid wasting panels and materials.

So the fact that Motorola managed to create a round-displayed smartwatch without slapping a humongous cost on it is remarkable. And it's an OLED model to boot.

We've mostly covered the assets of the Moto 360 device, so we won't go into much detail again. Suffice to say, the wearable gadget will offer everything its rivals do, and then some.

The fact that it's waterproof is one of the advantages that bear mentioning, though the real kicker is that Motorola's invention uses wireless charging.

Anyway, the reason I've picked up the subject again is because the ETA is finally known: July 2014.

The only drawback is that the price of €249 / $249 is a fair bit ahead of, say, that of the LG G Watch (€199 / $199).

Then again, the round shape and wireless charging don't come for free, and if you own an Android 4.3 smartphone (that's the minimum phone/tablet OS version that the Android Wear watch is compatible with), you're probably not squeamish about paying for current-generation quality.
