Canadian carrier MTS has just announced the upcoming availability of the Motorola Milestone A854, the second Android device launched by the operator. MTS is a business unit of MTS Allstream Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Manitoba Telecom Services, one of the major communication solutions companies in Canada.

Motorola Milestone A854 is the Canadian carrier's version of the original Motorola Milestone, also launched in the US as Motorola DROID.

One year after its debut on the market, Motorola Milestone is now making its way to MTS Connect stores in Manitoba.

“MTS is pleased to offer customers this exciting new device that contains multiple features required to deliver the best possible smartphone experience,” said Stan Kurtas, Vice President, Marketing, MTS.

“MTS is always working to provide wireless customers with handsets that are fun and exciting to use, and we are pleased to be launching another great Android device backed by the support of Manitoba's trusted wireless network,” continued Kurtas.

The device is powered by the Android 2.1 OS and features an ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz CPU with PowerVR SGX530 graphics.

Milestone A854 offers a faster and superior mobile web experience compared to HTC 6250 (aka Hero), which is the other Android device in MTS's portfolio.

The device enables users to quickly access to a wide range of apps and widgets on the Android Market and a full suite of Google applications including: Google Maps with Google Latitude, Gmail, Google Talk and YouTube.

Other highlights of the smartphone include: a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480x854 pixel resolution, accelerometer sensor, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, 133 MB internal memory, 256 MB RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB included), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, GPS with A-GPS support and 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash.

“The launch of the Motorola Milestone A854 with MTS demonstrates Motorola's commitment to continue bringing innovative Android handsets to Canadians,” said Rick Gadd, Vice President and General Manager, Motorola Mobility Canada.

The Motorola Milestone A854 will be available at MTS Connect stores in Manitoba.
