Announced at the beginning of the month, Motorola Milestone A854 is now available, as expected, at Manitoban carrier MTS. Customers can purchase the smartphone for as low as $179.99 CAD with a 3-year contract and min $39.99 CAD voice and data plan.

Motorola Milestone A854 is the second Android-based smartphone offered by MTS, along with HTC 6250, also known as HTC Hero.

“MTS is pleased to offer customers this exciting new device that contains multiple features required to deliver the best possible smartphone experience,” said Stan Kurtas, Vice President, Marketing, MTS.

“MTS is always working to provide wireless customers with handsets that are fun and exciting to use, and we are pleased to be launching another great Android device backed by the support of Manitoba's trusted wireless network,” added Kurtas.

Motorola Milestone A854 is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 550 MHz processor and runs on the Android 2.1 (Eclair) platform out-of-the-box, unlike the original Milestone which came with Android 2.0 on board.

The Milestone A854 features a 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 854 pixels resolution, full QWERTY keyboard with 5-way navigation key, multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor, and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

The slider embeds 133 MB internal memory, 256 MB RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB card included).

Other key features of the smartphone include: 1xEVDO Rev. A compatibility, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, GPS with A-GPS support, Digital compass, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, 5.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash and video recording capabilities.

The Li-Ion 1400 mAh battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 350 hours standby or for up to 6 hours 30 minutes of talktime.

In addition to the low price with 3-year contract, MTS customers have two more price options for the Motorola Milestone A854: $279.99 CAD with a 2-year contract or $504.99 CAD for 1-year contract.
