Previous reports claimed that Motorola might be abandoning the tablet race

Motorola has been previously rumored to be considering abandoning the tablet market for good. After all, the Xoom 2 slate was released almost two years ago and the company hasn't said anything about any refreshes coming out.

But, in an interview with Pocket-lint, CEO Dennis Woodside reveals that Motorola is thinking about tablets quite a lot. He adds that smartphones remain a priority (Motorola has launched the Moto X Android phone that will be coming in the UK in February), but the device maker is not giving up on slate-making.

Motorola actually plans to bring something extra to the tablet game, something that has become characteristic of some of its smartphones, namely customization.

“We are looking at tablets. A lot of people have asked us to build a tablet using Moto Maker, to customize their tablet. There might be a day we do that, but the bigger opportunity for us is the five billion people without smartphones.”

But don’t get super excited yet, as the purported tablet is in experimental stages at the moment, so it might take a while before we see it in the wild.
