Motorola's first digital two-way Radio System

MOTOTRBO is a digital communications technology platform that combines exceptional two-way radios with digital technology to deliver increased capacity. The two-way radio system includes portable and mobile radios, a repeater, accessories as well as powerful data applications, such as Text messaging Services and GPS Location services.

The Location Services will help users to treck vehicles (also persons and assets). Texting allows the communication between radios and dispatch system, between radios and email-adressable devices, and to remote PC clients attached to radios. The system was designed to be a software-upgradeable platform in order to let customers choose their own way when using it. The all-in-one MOTOTRBO also eliminates the need to carry a separate pager and mobile devices.

The "single repeater solution" offered by TDMA (time division multiple access) technology will cut 50% of a business' repeater costs. Therefore, instead of having one transmitter connected to one receiver, now there will be multiple transmitters. TDMA doubles the effective capacity of a customer's repeater channels within the 12.5 KHZ channels structure. This can also increase the customer's capacity for wireless voice and data communications.

Compared to equivalent analog systems, MOTOTRBO provides a longer talk time with up to 40 percent longer battery life than comparable analog radios.

"MOTOTRBO is designed specifically to meet the expanding needs of these customers, especially those requiring reliable business critical communications combined with the higher performance capabilities that digital technology can provide," said Craig Chenicek, director of radio products, Motorola Networks & Enterprise.

MOTOTRBO will probably be best suited for public administration, public works, manufacturing facilities, transportation companies, schools, constructions sites, energy and utility companies as well as police or fire departments.
