Motorola and T-Mobile have just announced that the affordable Motorola MOTOLUXE Android-based smartphone is now available for purchase in the UK.

The MOTOLUXE is a worthy device given the fact that it’s a budget-friendly smartphone with a few almost high-end features.

Customers who want to give it a try can grab it for free through T-Mobile UK, but would have to sign up for a long-term contract from at least £21 per month for 24 months.

The smartphone is shipped with Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread operating system on board and Moto Switch UI on top.

Motorola has yet to unveil any plans for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the MOTOLUXE, though we doubt there will be an official ROM release by the end of the year.

Anyway, the MOTOLUXE is an interesting device as it is. The phone sports a large 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution.

Hardware-wise, the smartphone is powered by an 800 MHz single-core processor, which should be enough for Android 4.0. In addition, the MOTOLUXE packs 1GB of RAM, 512MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Aside from the large display, another selling point of the Motorola MOTOLUXE would be the enhance 8-megapixel rear camera, which features autofocus and LED flash. There’s also a secondary VGA front facing photo snapper for video calls and self-portraits.

Furthermore, the phone offers a wide range of connectivity options, including HSDPA, Wi-Fi, DLNA, Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB and Wi-Fi hotspot. A built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support is included as well.

The MOTOLUXE’s 1400 Li-Ion battery is rated by Motorola for up to 450 hours of standby time (400 hours in 3G mode) or up to 6 hours and 30 minute (4 hours and 30 minutes in 3G mode) of talk time.
