Mobile phone maker Motorola unveiled to the world, not too long ago, its second handset powered by Google's Android operating system, the Motorola DROID, and also announced that the handset is set to become available for purchase in Europe as the Motorola MILESTONE. While the DROID is already available for purchase in the US via Verizon Wireless, the MILESTONE still has to make an appearance on shelves on the Old Continent, something that might happen as soon as December 7 is here.
Nothing has been announced officially in this regard as of yet, but the Motorola MILESTONE can be already spotted available for pre-order on a UK website. The guys over at
superetrader have
the Android 2.0-powered mobile phone listed on their website as becoming available for purchase on December 7, 2009, and also show a price tag for the phone: £439.99 inc VAT (around US$732). However, the interesting part here is that Motorola says the handset is to be put on sale in Germany and Italy and mentions nothing about the UK market.
The Motorola DROID/MILESTONE seems set to become one of the most wanted Android-based handsets launched on the market during the ongoing year and its availability in the UK can only be seen as great news for enthusiasts in the country. Especially, since they will be able to enjoy a large 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen with the phone, as well as a sliding QWERTY keyboard and a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and LED flash.
The price tag
MILESTONE has at the UK retailer SIM-free is in line with the one asked by Vodafone and O2 in Germany for the high-end device: €500 ($750). December 7 is not that far into the future and those who were already waiting for the MILESTONE to reach the UK market will soon be able to see their wish fulfilled. It remains to be seen if carriers in the country are also going to pick it up in the near future.
