14 DAY TRIAL // Mobile phone maker Motorola announced on Thursday the launch of its SHOP4APPS application store in China. According to the company, the new software solutions portal, which is named Zhi-Jian-Yuan (“Place for Apps Wisdom”) in Chinese, will include applications developed for the Google Android operating system, offering users in China the possibility to discover, purchase, and download solutions aimed at the customization of their Motorola handsets running under the OS.
According to the company, the new SHOP4APPS storefront is set to become available for access in time for the Chinese New Year, and it comes to the market in China along with additional features for mobile phone users, such as the possibility to select the search provider on their Android phones. Among the options that users have for the customization of their devices Motorola lists Baidu, as well as other providers with which the company has signed strategic agreements.
“Our ability to offer SHOP4APPS and choice in search is a testament to the openness of the Android platform. SHOP4APPS will provide developers the opportunity to market and promote their applications on Android handsets within the Chinese market,” said Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president of software and services, Motorola Mobile Devices. “In addition to our close collaboration with the Android community, we are working closely with our carrier partners in China, and with ecosystem partners like Baidu to provide consumers with a full suite of services. These services will include search, email and maps for our newest China smartphones.”
Motorola also stated that the possibility it offers to the buyers of new handsets to select the search service provider or the applications running on their device are meant to provide them with a customizable user experience. The storefront comes with support for the Android ecosystem and will be offered to partners in China for license. Developers will also have the possibility to promote their applications built through MOTODEV, the global developer program from Motorola, or through other Android development ecosystems. The submission of apps to the SHOP4APPS store in China has been already opened, Motorola noted.
