14 DAY TRIAL // AT&T users are about to taste a new Motorola Android flavor, as one the manufacturer's smartphones has just leaked, Motorola MB520. Codenamed Motorola Kobe, the device already received certifications from various organizations such as WiFi Alliance and UPnP Forum.
Even though the device made its appearance on June 16th for the first time, and then again on July 8th, when it was certified by the two organizations mentioned above, the information about its specs was very scarce.
Thanks to a “trusted source” Engadget website was able to receive more information about the device's technical specs.
Motorola MB520 Kobe is running an Android 2.1 operating system, especially built for the AT&T carrier. It also features the MOTOBLUR skin, which pretty much resembles Droid 2's UI.
The smartphone is powered by a 800MHz TI OMAP processor (either 3440 or an underclocked 3630), PowerVR SGX 530 GPU. It embeds 512MB RAM, 2GB internal storage and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32 GB, 2GB microSD card included in the sales package).
It sports a 3.0-megapixel camera without flash, a 3.5-inch LCD with 480 x 854 pixels resolution, and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n.
The leaked device also comes with specific services such as, Swype and DLNA. In addition, Motorola Kobe will also include Vlingo, an interesting voice control application for Android 2.1 users.
Probably slated for release in September, this is the third Android-powered device enlisted by AT&T network operator into its lineup, in such a short time (after previous Samsung Captivate and HTC Aria).
There's no word on the Kobe's pricing yet or the exact launching date, but the benchmarks results that were leaked with the phone's data specs puts it somewhere between Samsung Galaxy S and Motorola DROID X.
Motorola MB520 Kobe is worth more than an average Android-based smartphone, but we don't think it's a high performer. Check out the benchmarks results below, courtesy to Engadget.
