The company will probably release smaller tablets first

Motorola is getting ready to bounce back with full force in the year to come. The company will reportedly launch a slew of eight new smartphones in 2015, but for those of you who remain tablet enthusiasts we also bring good news today.

According to the folks of PhoneArena who talked to sources familiar with the matter, Motorola is looking to storm the world of tablets again. The company is currently in the process of testing an entire host of new slates with varying form factors.

The information reveals Motorola is working on 7-inchers, as well as bigger 11-inch and 12.5-inch models. It appears that the 7-inchers are in the most advanced testing stage, so they will probably be the first to be launched onto the market when the time comes.

As for the 11-inchers and 12.5-inchers, it is unclear whether they will actually become real life products or Motorola is just toying with the idea, for the time being.

Going back to the 7-inchers, the items being currently tested run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 platform, but the plan is to have NVIDIA’s new powerhouse, the Tegra K1 embedded into the final product.

Talk about Motorola making a comeback into tablet land has been around for some time now. At some point the company’s CEO Dennis Woodside talked about the possibility of bringing the Moto Maker customization service to future tablets sometimes in the future.

Also, a few months ago the company filed a bunch of patents outlining a tablet that comes equipped with a 3D display.

The documents revealed the device would have the capacity to “display objects in a stereoscopic manner so that their manipulation is intuitive to a user and they provide a realistic stereoscopic appearance before, during and after manipulation.”

Sure, a patent for a device doesn't mean we’re necessarily going to see the product arrive on retail shelves, but putting all the information head to head, we can clearly see Motorola has never intended of abandoning its tablet business.

Once upon a time, years ago, Motorola was the first company to come out with the XOOM tablet running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, which was especially optimized for tablets.

The company also launched a second-gen tablet, which was virtually pretty much ignored by customers, so Motorola abandoned its plans of rolling out a XOOM 3, even though a prototype for the product existed.

Do you think Motorola has a chance of carving out a place in today’s crowded tablet ecosystem?
