Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility, Inc. has made official a new device that sports a highly familiar form factor, namely the Motorola GLEAM flip phone. The new device is a feature phone that Motorola plans on showcasing at the Mobile World Congress (February 14-17th) in Barcelona, Spain.

The handset comes with a slim (13.9mm) design, and seems set to show traditional form factors are not dead just yet. The phone is aimed at those who “appreciate the simplicity and fun of mobile life,” the company announced.

The new Motorola GLEAM sports FM radio, along with MP3 playback capabilities, video playback, along with video recording courtesy of its 2-megapixel photo snapper.

The specifications list of the new device also includes:

- WAP 2.0 browser support - SMS, MMS, Email (POP3/IMAP) - 32MB Flash/16MB RAM; end user memory 5MB, 800 phone book, 500 SMS - Micro SD supports up to 16GB - 2.4" QVGA display - GSM dual band 900/1800 - Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with A2DP support - Micro-USB charging & data (USB 2.0 HS); 3.5mm audio Jack

The mobile phone maker also notes that the new handset was designed with a modern twist, courtesy of a LED matrix that keeps people up to date with important upcoming events and information, with a glowing light emitted from the flip’s transparent base to signal a call or message.

“The MOTOROLA GLEAM is a stylish and fun phone that also offers consumers a number of key entertainment features,” said Andrew Morley, vice president of marketing for Motorola Mobility, international markets.

“It’s also a little quirky with its lighting design letting you stand out from the crowd and make a statement.”

The leading handset vendor also announced that the new device was expected to become available for purchase during the first half of the ongoing year in three color versions, namely graphite gray, lacquer red and thistle. The phone can be admired in the video embedded below.
