Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility has just announced the upcoming availability of a new Android-based handset in the United States, namely the Motorola ELECTRIFY, which should hit the shelves at U.S. Cellular in the not-too-distant future.

The new device packs a dual-core application processor inside, with each core clocked in at 1GHz, and offers support for a great deal of high-end multimedia features, the handset vendor announced.

When compared to single-core smartphones available at the wireless carrier, the new phone can deliver up to 70 percent faster performance, and up to 75 percent faster browsing.

The new handset also sports a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, a qHD (Quarter High Definition) Corning Gorilla Glass screen with dual-layer, anti-reflective coating, along with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording capabilities.

Overall, the Motorola ELECTRIFY will arrive on shelves with specs and features that are similar to those inside, the newly released PHOTON 4G, suggesting that it would be nothing more than a special flavor of the latter, designed to fit U.S. Cellular's network.

“The ELECTRIFY is more than a 'smart' phone,” said Edward Perez, vice president of sales and marketing operations for U.S. Cellular.

“Its multi-tasking capabilities make it the perfect personal assistant for customers who depend on their smartphone to meet the ever-changing needs of their busy lifestyles.

“Our commitment to providing a variety of devices that enhance customers’ lives is one of the reasons consumers who switch to U.S. Cellular join the happiest customers in wireless.”

The new mobile phone arrives on shelves with 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot so that users could add up to 32GB of more storage space into the mix, WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, built-in GPS receiver, and 3.5mm headphone jack, USB 2.0 HS, HDMI, BOTA, MML.

The Motorola ELECTRIFY measures 66.90 x 126.90 x 12.20 mm and weighs in at 158 grams. It packs a 1700 mAh battery and runs under the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system.

U.S. Cellular did not offer specific info on the availability of ELECTRIFY, but announced that it will be released with a price tag of $199.99 attached to it, after a $100 mail-in rebate and after the signing of a contract agreement. The launch date will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
