A new Android-based mobile phone is now available for purchase in the United States on the airwaves of U.S. Cellular, namely the Motorola ELECTRIFY. The handset has just been put up for sale on the carrier's website, and is also set to arrive in some of the company's stores today.

However, the wireless carrier announced that the mobile phone will be released in all of its retail locations only on September 26th. Users interested in getting the new device before that should check first with the local U.S. Cellular store to see whether the phone is available or not.

The handset is available now with a price tag of $199.99 (around 147 Euros) attached to it with the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier and after a $100 mail-in rebate.

The operator also announced that all U.S. Cellular customers on Belief Plans who are now eligible for an upgrade are able to purchase the ELECTRIFY at the promotional price without having to sign a new contract.

Motorola ELECTRIFY arrives on the shelves with a dual-core application processor inside, 1GB of RAM to increase the performance capabilities it can deliver, a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, and Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform to power it.

The new smartphone was unveiled to the world as a re-branded flavor of Motorola PHOTON 4G, and lacks the support for the advanced 4G services that was available with the original.

“With an ultra-fast dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and Adobe Flash Player, you can access rich web content on the crisp 4.3" qHD display. Capture HD video with the 8 MP camera or video chat via Wi-Fi using the front-facing camera,” U.S. Cellular notes.

“The multimedia kickstand lets you watch videos or video chat hands-free, or use an HDMI cable to watch videos on your HDTV or monitor with Mirror Mode.”

The new mobile phone also comes with a microSD memory card slot to expand the available internal memory, as well as with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, and more.

With this new device, U.S. Cellular customers will find it easy to access various Google Mobile Services, or to head over to the Android Market to download and install new games and applications.

“Motorola ELECTRIFY is also business-ready, giving you business grade encryption and device remote wipe so all your data remains yours alone. Social networking is at your fingertips and you can stay connected almost anywhere, thanks to world phone capabilities,” the carrier notes.

Those who would like to purchase the Motorola ELECTRIFY from U.S. Cellular today will find it on the company's website here, or via all of its stores starting with September 26th.
