Launched back in July 2010, Motorola Droid X is one of the most popular Android-based smartphones retailed by Verizon. It seems that the device is now headed to China, where it is expected to be released this month.

However, the new Chinese version of the smartphone, also known as Motorola ME811, will be available with an overclocked 1.2 GHz CPU, unlike the original DROID X which is powered by a 1 GHz processor.

Even though both versions of the device feature the same TI OMAP 3630 processor, the one available on the Chinese market is delivered with a higher clocked CPU.

The TI OMAP 3630 processor in the original DROID X has already been overclocked by the modding community a while back, which means that Motorola was aware of the fact that the CPU is stable enough at 1.2 GHz.

Still, there's no telling if Motorola and Verizon have plans to make the overclocked CPU available for the original DROID X as well through a software update.

Furthermore, Motorola ME811 runs on the Android 2.2 Froyo platform out-of-the-box, unlike the original DROID X which is delivered with Android 2.1 Eclair. Fortunately, Verizon's DROID X is upgradable to Froyo, so there's nothing to worry about.

The rest of ME811's specs are the same as the original's, including 4.3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 854 pixels resolution, multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

The smartphone sports an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection, image stabilization and camcorder (720p@24fps, D1@30 fps).

Other interesting features include: 6.5 GB of internal memory, 512 MB RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 16 GB included), WAPI connectivity, DLNA function, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, 3.5 mm audio jack, Stereo FM radio with RDS and GPS with A-GPS support.

No prices have been disclosed yet, but the original DROID X is retailed in the U.S. for about $570 contract-free.
