14 DAY TRIAL // Mobile-phone maker Motorola is already known to plan launching on the market a second handset powered by Google's Android operating system, the Motorola Droid, headed for Verizon's airwaves and following the already available Motorola Cliq, which can be purchased in the US via T-mobile and in Europe via Orange (As Motorola Dext), but it seems that there is also an unknown part of the deal, namely that other carriers might also have the upcoming device.
The Motorola Droid, soon to be launched on Verizon and already spotted with the carrier's branding on board, has just made a pit stop at FCC, and is reported to have displayed support for GSM networks. Moreover, it seems that the device, which is also known as the Motorola Sholes or Tao, might very well come to AT&T's network, at least this is what a recent article on MobileCrunch suggests.
The Motorola Droid has been already spotted at FCC, both with CDMA network bands on board, expected due to its future launch with Verizon, and with GSM bands, which suggested that it was also headed for Europe, yet it seems that AT&T might welcome the handset on its network too, due to the 850/900/1800/1900Mhz bands it supports. Moreover, the second Motorola Android phone might also prove compatible with Rogers' network in Canada, so we might learn at a certain moment in the future that it went up North as well.
Hopefully, the Motorola Sholes will indeed come to more carriers in the US, and to a wide range of operators around the world, for, as many of you already know, it is proving to be one of the best Android phones that would come to the market in 2009. However, the AT&T full 3G support that the phone includes might prove to be only a false alarm in the end, so don't hold your breath on this.
