Looks great, feels great, will come soon

Motorola Droid, the second handset the mobile phone maker will push to the market running under Google's Android operating system, has just gotten its first hands-on, and users can already admire it in a series of images available, while also being able to learn a few more details on what the device comes with and what kind of experience it can deliver.

Motorola's second Android phone, which has been previously known as Sholes, is expected to make an appearance on Verizon's offering at the beginning of next month, while the official announcement should come on October 30. The wireless carrier already put up a promo site for the phone, and touts a wide range of capabilities that are not available with Apple's iPhone.

Most of the specifications the Motorola Droid is set to come to the market with are already known, and the article on BGR that delivers the first impressions with the device seems only to confirm them. Android 2.0 (Eclair) is on board, it is powered by a TI OMAP3430 processor, which makes it one of the fastest Android devices on the market, and it also sports a thin body, being probably the thinnest QWERTY-slider available.

Other than that, BGR also says that the phone's capacitive display looks great and feels just the same, the keyboard seems “usable,” though the unit didn't sport the final form of the QWERTY, and it comes with a desktop cradle/charger that can turn the device into some sort of a “multimedia station.” It seems that Google has been involved in the design of the device too, and Motorola Droid is expected to become the best Android-based phone when launched.

Compared to the already announced and available Motorola Cliq / Dext, the Droid seems a much better device, and we're sure that there are a wide range of people already waiting for it to become available for purchase. Until that will happen (roughly 11 days from now), take a look at some photos with it, or head here for the entire gallery.
