Said to be the most impressive Android phone to date

Motorola Droid, the second handset Motorola delivers to the market with Google's Android operating system on board, is now official. It will reach Verizon Wireless' offering as soon as November 6 is here, and it will cost only $200 on a two-year contract, aiming to bring down the Apple iPhone with a wide range of features, hardware capabilities and functionalities.

Verizon already touts Motorola Droid's capabilities against the iconic Apple handset available exclusively from AT&T in the US, and most of the people who already encountered the phone agree with this. It comes with Android 2.0 on board, sports multi-touch capabilities, enhanced Internet connectivity options, multi-tasking, physical keyboard, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper that can take nice pictures even when the lights are off, a mix that seems to prove a winner in the end.

Moreover, the Motorola Droid also sports an attractive design, with its large 3.7-inch touchscreen display that boasts an 854 x 480 pixel resolution and with the side-sliding QWERTY keyboard. Not to mention that Motorola touts it as the thinnest sliding handset on the market. On all aspects, the build of this device is set to appeal to users, or at least this is one of the conclusions most of those who grabbed the phone came to.

“It's heavy. And the construction makes it feel like one of the substantial phones I've used in a while. It's not like anything you've got in your pocket. The way the screen - the best one on an Android phone yet - ponderously slides up, using only the manual power of your thumb, without the spring assistance our weak fingers are used to, adds to that feeling of weight. While it has a thickness inherent to all sliders, it's not unpleasantly plump. It works with the rest of the phone,” is what gizmodo has to say about the handset.

Some hands-on images are also available, yet more extensive galleries can be found either on Engadget, via this link, or on gizmodo, here. The guys over at Engadget delivered two videos with the phone too, so you might want to have a look at them as well, just to see what impression the Droid will make.
