It was only a few days ago that Motorola’s DROID X got the hands-on treatment, and now the second Android-based device from the company has stepped into DROID's shoes, namely the so-called DROID 2. Unlike the DROID X, the new device comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, just as its predecessor did, while boasting a refined ergonomic design.

The photos available now with the fresh mobile phone made it into the wild via Gizmodo, reportedly being delivered by one of their readers, who had the chance of playing a little with this baby. Interestingly enough, it seems that its actual name might not be Droid 2, although it is expected to replace the existing phone in Verizon Wireless' lineup.

When compared to the older model, the new Motorola gadget was said to be of the same size, with the headphone jack, volume buttons, power/sleep button, and the Micro-USB port placed as on the DROID. Moreover, the fresh handset comes with the same 5-megapixel photo snapper, though said to be a little faster.

The keyboard on this beauty is wider and somehow different from the one on the DROID. The internal memory of the mobile phone is said to be of 8GB, coupled with a microSD memory card slot with support for additional storage, and with an 8GB card included in the package. The gadget is said to be powered by a 1 Ghz processor, though no further details have been unveiled.

The Motorola Droid 2 (model number A955) runs Google's Android 2.1 operating system, apparently with the same user interface as the one present on the Droid X (the rumored new version of MotoBlur). However, it seems the handset might land on the market with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, though no confirmation on this has emerged.
