Should land at Verizon soon

Motorola has caught the Android frenzy for sure, and most of you might know already that the company is set to deliver to the market only smartphones powered by this mobile operating system in the near future. One of these handsets is expected to be the Motorola Devour, which should land on Verizon Wireless' airwaves, and which already emerged into the wild a few times before.

This time around, we have the chance to take a look at the handset's packaging box, which, if real, states clearly that the device will bear the name of DEVOUR, and that it will also include Motorola's MotoBlur solution on top of that Android platform. Not to mention that Verizon's name also appears on the box, suggesting that the previous rumors should pan out, and that this is the carrier to launch it. And since the box made it into the wild, the launch date might not be too far in the future either, it seems.

According to the guys over at AndroidCentral, this might not be the actual retail box of the handset, but only the promotions pack which is being sent to Verizon stores ahead of the handset's actual arrival. However, Moto's motto “Live life for the Story” is also present on the package, as well as a short description of the Motorola Devour (which some of you might have encountered before as the Calgary).

“The digital world is scattered, but MOTOBLUR brings Gmail, Exchange and social networking contacts together for you. Now, with complete information and no duplicates, all those stories, emails, posts, tweets and changes in contact information are gathered for you and are always updated in real time,” is what the small text on the box reads, phandroid says.

In related news, we learn that the handset might come to the market with a 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 processor, the same as Palm's Pixi and RIM's BlackBerry Curve 8530 include. This would make it the first Android device to sport that processor inside, and rumor has it that the CPU will power the Android 1.6 platform, though that Android 2.1 should also arrive later this year. With a full QWERTY keyboard, Devour should prove an appealing device, especially since some say it will be more affordable than the DROID when launched on Verizon's network.
