Mobile phone maker Motorola is getting ready for the release of a new software update for the owners of Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX devices out there, and the company has decided to share some info on what users will receive as part of it.

Right from the start, users should know that the update does not bring along a new flavor of the Android operating system. In fact, as Android Central notes, Motorola has already confirmed that the two will remain on Android 4.1.2, and there’s nothing that we can do about it.

The new firmware release for the two, however, will offer a series of bug fixes and other small improvements, it seems.

“We are rolling out a new software update for Verizon users with RAZR / RAZR MAXX by Motorola. With this upgrade we have fixed a few bugs reported for this device,” Motorola has announced.

One of these fixes is meant to address a bug that affected users traveling to Canada. As Motorola explains, the problems could have resulted in data connectivity issues while roaming in Canada on Telus GSM and UMTS networks.

At the same time, the new firmware aims to resolve an issue with extended networks. This caused a data roaming warning to appear while connecting to extended networks (e.g. Alaska), Motorola explains.

As soon as the update is available for their devices, users will receive a notification on the matter. Before kicking off the download process, however, they should make sure that the battery of the handset is charged at least at 50 percent, and that they are connected to a Wi-Fi network.

The availability of the update can also be checked manually, through going to Settings > About phone > System updates. If the new firmware is available, they should simply hit the download button to grab it.

The handset vendor also notes that, following the update, the Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX should be running under software version 98.72.165.XT912.Verizon.en.US. More info on the matter can be found on Motorola’s support website.
