Motorola, Inc. recently announced that its WiMAX technology was used for the roll-out of a WiMAX network in Taiwan. Vee TIME Corp. launched a commercial mobile broadband network in the country, offering users access to an enhanced media mobility experience, putting together high-speed wireless services, along with its existing television, voice and Internet offerings.

According to Motorola, Vee TIME Corp. had acquired a WiMAX license that enabled it deploy mobile broadband services based on WiMAX. These services are available for users in Taichung City, Taichung County and Kinmen County, and are expected to soon arrive in more areas in Taiwan. Moreover, a series of upgrades are also included in the carrier's plans, Motorola notes.

“With the new high-speed mobile service, Vee TIME Corp. has become the leading quadruple play service operator in Taiwan, enabling us to provide not only high quality communication services, but also innovative digital media offerings across different platforms,” Vee TIME Corp said. “Motorola's state-of-the-art WiMAX solutions and professional services team ensured a high quality and quick deployment of the advanced network. Its expertise and experience in other WiMAX projects around the globe were invaluable. With this deployment, Motorola has helped us better fulfill customer demands and create innovative solutions for our subscribers.”

Motorola's solutions were selected by three out of six WiMAX carriers in Taiwan, proving the company's leadership in 4G. Vee TIME Corp. awarded a WiMAX contract to Motorola in 2009, and the infrastructure provider managed to design, supply and deploy the largest WiMAX network in southern Taiwan in a few months. The fully operational and optimized network was ready for commercial launch in the second quarter of the ongoing year.

“We are excited to implement a world-class WiMAX network to help realize Vee TIME Corp.'s digital media convergence vision. The consumption of rich media mobile content is increasing, and consumers and business users are adopting a new mobile lifestyle. The new WiMAX services supported by Motorola's technology and services team will provide Vee TIME Corp. with a competitive edge in this emerging, fast growing market,” Dr. Mohammad Akhtar, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Networks business in Asia Pacific, commented.
