Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility has started to deliver a new software update to users of ATRIX 4G who signed up for the beta testing program.

Yesterday, the company reportedly announced users that they would be receiving the 4.5.91 update in the near future, and has already started sending the bits to them.

The software would bring the operating system version on the handset up to 2.3 Gingerbread, and should pack a wide range of enhancements.

Apparently, users are advised not to perform manual searches for the update, but to wait for the notification to arrive on their devices.

“If you don’t get the notification within two hours of when others first report receiving it, feel free to post on the “I didn’t get a notification” thread,” the Motorola Forums managers informed users.

“Only comment on the Upgrade Issues thread if you have an issue, the original posts gives some guidelines. No need for confirmation that you received the upgrade or that it downloaded successfully.”

Following the availability of this update for beta testers, a public release of the 4.5.91 update should follow shortly.

Before downloading and installing the new software update, testers should make sure that the battery in their mobile phones is charged at least at 50 percent.

“Secondly, the upgrade should only be downloaded over WiFi, as doing so over 3G could contribute to significant data charges if you are not on an unlimited plan. If you have trouble downloading through your WiFi network it is advised that you try another WiFi network,” Motorola informed users.

Motorola ATRIX 4G was launched with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, but with powerful hardware inside, which would make it fit for the newer Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Since the testing period for the new software update has already started, it might not be too long before Motorola begins rolling out the update to the rest of its users, and more info on the matter should emerge soon.
