Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility and wireless carrier Verizon have just confirmed that the Motorola DROID X2 is set to arrive on shelves in the United States as soon as May 26th.

The new addition to the company's DROID series does twice the work of the original DROID X, courtesy of its dual-core application processor, clocked in at 1GHz.

Boasting a large 4.3-inch scratch-resistant and anti-reflective touchscreen display that can deliver a qHD resolution, the new device should provide users with a great experience while on the go, Verizon notes.

“Fly through the Web with the DROID X2, which boasts Verizon Wireless’ first dual-core 1 GHz processor for fast webpage loading and Adobe Flash Player, allowing Verizon Wireless customers to experience rich content online.”

“The 4.3-inch scratch-resistant and anti-reflective qHD display delivers a sharp, clear view ideal for watching movies, typing emails and playing your favorite games.” The handset is powered by Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, but should be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread soon.

On the back, the new device would sport an 8-megapixel camera with continuous auto focus and HD video capture capabilities, with fast access to Flickr and Facebook to share photos with friends.

Some of the main features of the device would also include Mirror Mode for viewing and sharing photos, videos and downloaded movies on larger TVs via HDMI output, along with enterprise-ready with security and IT-grade policies, Mobile Hotspot capability with support for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

The handset also includes support for Google Mobile Services, such as Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Search and Google Maps. Users would enjoy fast access to the Android Market as well, for downloading and installing applications.

While set to land on shelves on May 26th for $199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement, the Motorola DROID X2 would become available for pre-order through Verizon Wireless Communication Stores and online starting tomorrow, May 19th.
