The update is still in the “lab test cycle”

Verizon and Motorola have yet to deploy the long-awaited Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the DROID Turbo. One of the few Motorola flagships launched last year at Verizon, the DROID Turbo made its way onto the market with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box.

Although Motorola is known for offering major OS updates quite fast, its acquisition by Lenovo led to some delays to the delivery of the promised updates to smartphone users.

While we don't know how many Motorola employees are now working to bring the latest version of Android on as many smartphones as possible, it's clear that there aren't too many left.

Quite a few Motorola smartphones have yet to be upgraded to Android Lollipop. Apart from that, it appears that the US-based company is focusing on budget-friendly handsets over its high-end lineup.

The same goes for the DROID Turbo, which was launched back in October and is still running Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Work on the update is progressing nicely

Motorola announced a while ago that the DROID Turbo would not get Android 5.0 Lollipop like the rest of its smartphones. Instead, the handset maker confirmed that the DROID Turbo would be upgraded directly to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Earlier today, Verizon updated the phone's listing with mentions of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, which isn't available for download yet.

In order to clear things up, Motorola's David Schuster made the following statement regarding Android Lollipop update for DROID Turbo:

“Hey, I wanted to give a quick update on our progress on the DROID Turbo 5.1 lollipop upgrade since there seems to be A LOT of inaccurate information out there. We are still in the lab test cycle and things are looking good. We have not provided a launch date yet, but I will let you know as soon as the update is available.”

That being said, we expect Android 5.1 Lollipop to arrive on DROID Turbo in the next few weeks, if nothing wrong happens.
