One day after an official press render of the Motorola DROID Turbo briefly appeared on a US carrier’s Twitter account, the smartphone was officially confirmed to arrive on the market later this month.

As expected, the DROID Turbo will be exclusively available in the United States through Verizon Wireless, beginning October 28. The launch date has been confirmed on the official DROID family website where Verizon posted a countdown that ends on October 28.

The countdown has a smartphone above that suggests Verizon plans to launch another DROID handset on that date, and what device the carrier can unveil other than the DROID Turbo?

Often referred to as Nexus 6 mini, Motorola DROID Turbo was initially thought to be the next Nexus flagship smartphone coming from Google.

However, the search giant has decided to go with a much larger device instead of the DROID Turbo, which Motorola chose to release under its own brand.

The good news is Motorola has kept the same features that Nexus 6 was originally rumored to pack, so those who are looking for a high-end smartphone made by the US-based company will want to take the DROID Turbo under consideration.

According to the latest rumors, the DROID Turbo will sport a 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that might or might not support QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

Things are a bit confusing for the moment, as the device has been spotted in several benchmarks with either full HD or QHD displays, so it remains to be seen which one Motorola will be packing inside the DROID Turbo.

The DROID Turbo may be launched at other carriers after a few weeks as well

The smartphone’s manual that leaked online last week has already confirmed the DROID Turbo will boast an amazing 21-megapixel photo snapper on the back with dual-LED flash.

We also know the top-tier handset will support Qi Wireless Charging and will be compatible with Motorola’s Moto Turbo Charger, which is said to be able to replenish 8 more hours of battery life in only 15 minutes.

Aside from that, we expect the DROID Turbo to be equipped with a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor inside, an Adreno 420 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM.

It’s almost certain that the smartphone will pack no less than 32GB of internal memory, but we doubt there will be a microSD card slot for memory expansion included.

We kind of expect the DROID Turbo to ship with Android L operating system out of the box, but it’s unclear whether Motorola will be able to put it on the smartphone by the time it reaches the market.
