It might be just a software problem

The second Android-based mobile phone handset vendor that Motorola delivered to the market this year, namely the Motorola DROID, is considered at the moment to be the nicest Android device available. However, while being as appealing as it can be, it seems that some of its early adopters might have been plagued with some disturbing sound issues.

The Motorola DROID is reported to come around with problems related to its ringers and SMS volume. A series of users already started to complain about these problems, which might suggest that it is not an isolated issue, and it seems that people are affected by it in various ways. The main symptom here is that the external sound either drops to being almost impossible to hear, or it disappears entirely. Rebooting the device is one solution that might work for the time being, yet one should agree that is not the most convenient way when it comes to such a high-end phone.

Phone will be running perfectly fine, then suddenly all audible sounds are no longer played through the main speaker. The sounds are all audible only when u pick up the phone and place it to your ear……?!?! So basically, when recieving (sic) texts or calls, it just vibrates and the ringtone can be heard when put up against ear. I turn the phone off and back on, and everything’s back to normal. Then later at some point, it does it again…..Is this happening to anyone else?” is what a user states on Motorola’s Owners Forum.

For the time being, however, it appears that there are no exact details on the cause of the problem, and there are great chances that this is only a software issue, which might find itself a fix in a future software update. However, it remains to be seen how Motorola will respond to the problem, and whether or not it may affect a greater number of users in the future.
