With handsets like the Motorola DROID X2 / DROID 3 or PHOTON 4G

on shelves today and with the DROID Bionic nearing availability, it was only a matter of time before info on what Motorola planned next emerged.

Today, we learn that the next high-end smartphone from the company might be the Motorola DROID HD, a handset that can be seen in the photo to the left.

Rumor has it that the smartphone would be released with a TI OMAP 4430 1GHz dual-core application processor inside, complemented by a 1GB of RAM for great performance capabilities, but it seems that the main selling point of this device will be another one.

Motorola is said to have packed the new mobile phone with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display, which should boast a high resolution, maybe even higher than what the latest devices from the company offer, namely qHD.

Nothing was confirmed on the matter for the time being, but, since rival companies are already considering the release of devices with higher resolution, we wouldn't be surprised if Motorola made a similar move.

Other than that, the new mobile phone is said to be on its way to the market with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with 1080p HD video recording capabilities, a front-facing camera for video calling, and microUSB / HDMI ports.

Motorola DROID HD is also expected to arrive on shelves with a microSD memory card slot for expanding the available storage space, as well as with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, GPS receiver, and the like.

At the same time, the mobile phone seems to sport a very slim design, either on par with the Samsung Galaxy S II, or even slimmer than it. Most probably, the smartphone will run under one of the latest versions of Android when made available for purchase.

All in all, it seems that Motorola is preparing the launch of something big, though it remains to be seen whether the DROID HD will hit the shelves in the next few months, or soon after Google takes over the company.
