Keep in mind that you will be stuck on this build permanently

Verizon’s Motorola DROID 4 has been launched on the market a few months ago with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board. However, the handset maker promised an Ice Cream Sandwich update will be delivered to all DROID 4 owners at some point.

Unfortunately, after promising it will update its RAZR and XOOM devices in Q1 2012, Motorola pushed back the release of Android 4.0 for all devices.

The reasons behind the company’s decision to delay such an important update are unknown for the moment, but that’s bad for business.

With Android 4.0 ICS still on hold, those who own a Motorola smartphone can choose to root their devices with more or less official ROMs that have yet to be released by the handset vendor.

Today, the first official stock Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for Motorola DROID 4 leaked online, so users can choose to flash this build instead of waiting indefinitely for the company to offer the update.

However, it is important to understand that, once the ROM is flashed onto the DROID 4, there’s no turning back. Basically, those who install the update will be stuck on this build permanently.

At least that’s what folks at DroidForums, who leaked the “official” ICS build, claim. Apparently, flashing this build will take users off Verizon’s official upgrade path, so it won’t be possible to install the 6.13.219 fastboot file anymore.

The leaked ROM brings stock Motoblur 4.0.4 along with all the new features and capability of Google’s latest version of Android. DROID 4 owners who flashed this ROM claim that all the phone’s functions are working properly, but there are problems with rooting the device.
