It looks like Motorola has been very busy lately as the company plans to release software updates for several DROIDs within the next few days.

First we learned that Verizon Wireless would soon start the rollout of a major update for the DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX (not Ice Cream Sandwich), and now we just got word that the DROID 4 would also receive a maintenance update.

Verizon Wireless has already published the official changelog of the update on its support site, so it's just a matter of days until it goes live.

It appears that the upcoming update will bring the DROID 4’s software to build 6.13.219 and includes lots of improvements, as well as some bug fixes.

The most important seems to be the battery life improvement, which brings more autonomy to Motorola DROID 4.

Furthermore, the update also includes improvements to Wi-Fi connectivity and text message delivery when using the Messaging application.

According to the changelog recently leaked online, there are also some improvements meant to reduce touchscreen lockups, device sluggishness and blank screen lockups.

Loud call end and connect tones over Bluetooth have been enhanced as well, while DROID 4 users can now successfully receive Visual Voice Mail notifications.

The update also includes some bug fixes and addresses a few issues that have been previously reported. For example, the Power On function has been fixed and the keypad backlight now only launches when needed.

Last but not least, there’s a new MotoCast widget that can be added to home screen and thumbnail view.

The update is not yet available, but we already know it’s only 18 MB in size and it will be pushed OTA (over the air) sometime this week. Make sure you manually check for the update by going to Settings / About phone / System updates / Download.
