Mobile phone maker Motorola has been long rumored to be on its way to bring to the market in the United States a new Android-based device on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless, namely the DROID 3, and some more proof on this surfaced recently.

The said device, which allegedly sports the codename of Solana and model number XT862, has just received all the necessary approvals from the Bluetooth SIG (via Pocketnow), which confirms its upcoming availability on the market.

The yet unannounced mobile phone would arrive on shelves as the direct successor of Motorola's DROID and DROID 2 smartphones, while bringing a series enhancements and new features into the mix.

Apparently, the handset would arrive on shelves with a slimmer body when compared to the previous devices, while also sporting a new QWERTY keyboard.

The leaked info on this device suggests that it would include a 4-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a qHD resolution, along with a dual-core TI-OMAP4 processor.

If so, it would be able to provide users with enhanced performance capabilities, the same as some of the latest handsets on the market including the Motorola ATRIX 4G can offer.

According to the available info on the new device, Motorola would load Google's Android 2.2 Froyo on it, though an update to the newer Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system might not be too far either.

It's rather surprising to learn that Motorola would aim at packing the dual-core TI-OMAP4 processor with this device, after already launching Tegra 2-based handsets, but nothing was confirmed on the matter for the time being, and we'll take the info with a grain of salt.

For those out of the loop, we should note that we already had the chance to take a look at some leaked photos with the mobile phone, which leaked into the wild not too long ago along with another upcoming Motorola handset, the DROID X2.
